They're passing this on to their technical presales now. HP sales contacted me just today, with 2 manuals about Unite. I can ping the PC, browse a shared folder. That's the one it's running now, but still no Download URL, and I'm not able to reach the device with the client software. It showed me the blue screen with the download URL & PIN, but the URL was unreachable (I think some IIS issue).Īfter a lot of fiddling, I contacted Intel, and they sent me another version of the Unite software. It wouldn't work at first, so I updated Windows, drivers & BIOS. I tried the Unite software that came preloaded on the device. It's the i5 model specifically labeled "for meeting rooms", our sales rep chose this model exactly because it had full Unite options/license. I'm not quite following - do I need specific Slice software that's related to my model? I've got a It's impossible to reach the high level HP support directly, so I have no way to contact them directly with this solution. It was escalated to the highest level, and closed without solution. Why Intel chose to point to a site for Mac in stead of hosting the correct file in the device (like they do with Win) is a riddle to me.Īlso, very odd that HP support didn't follow through to this solution. I've downloaded this correct file, and hosted it on the Intel Unite Hub (together with the Win Installer & Win Executable). This is a LOT of steps for an end-user, mostly external to our company. There they have to choose the proper version: 3.3.1Īnd there they have to choose the Small Business version (the other one doesn't mention Enterprise) The MAC users were being redirected to this site: The standalone Hub version has an 8-character alphanumeric code. The Enterprise version has a 6-digit code, numbers only. It's possible to make it a LOT easier for your users, by downloading this file and hosting it on your Intel HUB directly. While Windows users were presented with the installer/executable they need (hosted on the device), Mac users were being directed to a series of download pages at Intel, where they had to guess the installer number, and guess whether they use the "no remark" version of the "small business" version. It seems end users were being directed to a confusing set of downloads, through the Intel Unite web page. These have disappeared for a few days, but seem to reappear whenever the device is doing Windows updates. On a sidenote: When first installing the device, when it was updating Windows & Bios, I got some warnings about overheating. More details over on Intel's boards: Opens a new window I've got a few days to save this thing from "demo status: major fail & time wasted". Tried to work around sensible network security by disabling Windows Firewall on Hub & client side. Tried to work around the issue by setting up my own IIS webpage on the Hub, pointing to Unite's folder / htm file structure. If anyone recalls my last case with getting HP support in Belgium, it's similar now: It can take up to a week to get a reply. Tried to get support from HP Belgium for this demo. Installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled various Unite versions (last one recommended by Intel support) Updated almost all drivers and BIOS on the slice The Slice is a nice looking (expensive) piece of desk decoration. When our sales rep told me he had a demo Intel Unite lying around, packed inside the HP Elite Slice, I thought: wow, this is what I've been looking for to swap out that Chromecast dongle on our meeting room beamer.Ībout 2 weeks later, the Chromecast is still doing it's work.
